Fear is sneaky!  It shows itself in many forms that trick us into succumbing to settling back into our comfort zone.  Am I right?  That is until we learn that this is all a scheme to suppress our vibrant thoughts and ideas and hold us back from unbridled joy and greater fulfillment, we’re onto you, SNEAKY FEAR!

Fear disguises itself by wearing these various masks:

  • Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)

  • Comparisonitis

  • Analysis Paralysis

  • Perfectionism’s Hold

  • The Disease to Please

Understanding how FEAR shows up is the first stride to disrupt its presence, allowing you to live authentically aligned with your purpose.  Picture that deep inner feeling when you’re aligned with what you’re meant to do - time flies, contentment appears, and inspiration and fulfillment take over.  If only we could bottle up that feeling! đŸ’„

Setting Fears Aside: Aligning Purpose, Action, and Values for Forward Momentum

Overcoming fears is more than JUST conquering the unknown; it’s about aligning your purpose, actions, and values. This alignment becomes your compass, guiding you toward a more meaningful life.

Start by clarifying your purpose with these introspective questions:

For me, I am driven by positive, growth-minded actions, healthy eating and living, and a daily dose of intentional exercise.  These things have always been of utmost importance to me.  When I face fear is when one of these values are out of alignment.  When that happens, a change needs to happen.  We all know change isn’t easy, but it is essential for adding greater meaning to our lives.

Identifying your purpose forms a solid foundation for intentional actions that resonate with your goals. This alignment propels you authentically toward your envisioned future.

Values as Guiding Stars:

Amid decision-making, your values act as guiding stars. Align your actions with these core values, supporting authenticity and fortifying resilience in the face of challenges.

This brings to mind a pivotal moment in my life when I enrolled in an online speaking course. It entailed overcoming fears, clarifying my purpose, taking intentional actions, and allowing my values to steer me.

The result? Discovering a passion for assisting others in breaking free from their status quo and reigniting their inner spark. This decision marked a significant shift towards alignment for me.

Most journeys take time, defying the wishful timeline of figuring it all out by week's end. Committing financially to a class held me accountable, preventing fear from derailing me. From this commitment, I gained new skills, expanded my beliefs, and forged positive connections.

5 Strategies for breaking the chains of fear

  1. Face Your Fears Head-On:

  • Acknowledge and confront your fears directly.

  • Take gradual steps to expose yourself to the fear-inducing situation, helping desensitize and build resilience.

For instance, when I notice myself retracting from an opportunity I’m curious about, I pause to question my mind’s messages.  If it is an outdated warning that no longer serves me, I dismiss it.  Tuning into my inner body, I distinguish between excitement and apprehension.

If excitement exists, I take action steps forward.  If apprehension exists, I sit with it until I understand the barriers.  This process empowers me to control my reaction to opportunities, ensuring fear doesn’t have full control.

2. Cultivate a Growth Mindset:

  • Embrace a mindset that sees challenges as opportunities for growth.

  • View setbacks as learning experiences rather than failures, fostering a positive perspective on change.

Cultivating a growth mindset involves retraining your mind's response to challenges. Pause to examine your thoughts, allowing your intuition to interject.

This transformative process empowers you, giving a voice to your intuition and celebrating opportunities within challenges. Cultivating a growth mindset equips you to navigate challenges with resilience and maintain a positive perspective.
