Building a Diverse Inner Circle: How Varied Personalities Enhance Healthy Friendships

Whyyy would we pursue friendships with individuals with distinctively unique interests, talents, and gifts?  I mean, how would we EvEn get along?

The truth is, that each cherished friendship brings unique support into our lives. Just as our dreams and ambitions differ, so too do the sources of inspiration and thought-provoking stimulation found in the journeys of our friends.

Consider my inner circle, for example, and how it evolved as I transitioned onto a new entrepreneurial business path for my future and left behind my 30-plus years in the finance world.

It began a few years ago when I said ‘yes’ to a significant opportunity to speak at a conference (and if you know me, you know I'm all about seizing those chances!).

This single decision ignited a spurt of growth within me, prompting me to expand by seeking classes and books aimed at honing my speaking skills.  It quickly became clear that I could benefit greatly from connecting with individuals further along in their speaker journeys - mentors and friends who could offer guidance and support.

While this photo was a while ago, it signifies to me the incredible growth and courage I exhibited when I was ready for great growth. The women I met along the way were kind, inspiring, and supportive in my new journey.

Much like plants thrive with the right combination of soil, sunlight, temperature, and nourishment, we also flourish when surrounded by the right influences.

It’s common knowledge that we all benefit from personal growth.  Take a moment to envision your future and consider whether your circle of friends offers the guidance and support necessary for your new path and passions.

If, like me, you’ve found yourself eager to expand your skills and expertise, you might sense a gap in your inner circle - a lack of individuals passionate about your newfound interest.

One effective strategy for finding like-minded individuals is to immerse yourself in activities aligned with your curiosity.  Whether it involves joining a class or club related to your new interest, these environments offer opportunities to connect with others who can facilitate your learning and growth.

By diving into activities that match your new interests, you’ll learn more and meet people with your vibe. As you start this adventure and look for like-minded people, it’s key to understand the qualities that make for the most trusted and supportive friendships.
